The Burning Man Experience

Trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what a particular color looks like to someone who is blind. The event is described by many participants as an experiment in community, art, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance. It consists close to 70,000 people forming about 1,000 separate camps in the Black Rock Desert of northern Nevada during the last weekend of August. All of these things involve creativity and an artistic spirit, which is the point of Burning Man.

For me Burning Man is a visual feast of people and creativity, with a glaze of white gypsum dust that creates a surreal otherworldly picture. I chose to tell my visual story of Burning Man by focusing attention through muted colors against the beautiful starkness and muted grays of the desert.
